Grades 3-6: Program Specifics
Personal Safety Curriculum for Grades 3/4 and Grades 5/6
Think First & Stay Safe is a research-based, teacher-friendly program that provides students with specific personal safety education by way of interactive classroom lessons, video and PowerPoint presentations, classroom posters, role playing and corresponding Student Workbook activities.
The Lesson Plans
The Grades 3/4 and 5/6 curriculum consists of 24 scripted Lesson Plans. The first seven lessons are cornerstone Lesson Plans, and may have been taught in previous grades. The 17 Lures Lessons are presented incrementally to build knowledge and understanding.
Each Lesson Plan includes an introduction, learning objectives, a quick review of the previous lesson, discussion and interactive learning activities, corresponding Student Workbook activity and lesson recap. Lesson Plans conclude with a Positive Thinking Skill, in an effort to leave students feeling optimistic after discussing a serious topic.

The Educational Goals are:
- To establish an understanding that the vast majority of people are decent, caring individuals who are protective of youngsters.
- To assure students that laws exist to protect their safety because sexual abuse and harassment are against the law.
- To advise students that they have rights too, including a right to live free of abuse.
- To encourage students to rely on a combination of critical thinking and instincts to help ensure their personal safety.
- To encourage students to take safety precautions while enjoying the many advantages of being online.
- To nurture each youngster's sense of individual worth and urge them to recognize and respect the worth of others.
- To strive for kinder, more tolerant students in an effort to lower the incidence of all forms of school violence.
- To promote disclosure of any type of abuse or threat to a youngster's safety.
- To assure youngsters with thoughts of abusing others that help is available.
- To reduce the feelings of guilt and blame often felt by survivors of abuse.
- To encourage parents to take an active role in the personal safety education of their children.
