Parent Involvement: Grades PreK-2

For any prevention program to be truly effective, schools must enlist the support and cooperation of parents. As is the case whenever a sensitive topic is addressed in the classroom, parents may have questions and concerns.

Program Orientation

Child Lures Prevention encourages schools to invite parents to a Think First & Stay Safe™School Program orientation prior to any classroom presentations, where parents are given an overview of the program and an opportunity to voice any questions or concerns. (A sample invitation is provided within the program's Presenter's Instruction Guide.)

Parent Support

Parents should also be provided with the name and phone number the school's guidance counselor(s) and/or program coordinator, in case additional questions exist or arise.

Take-Home Handout for PreK-2 Students

Children are also more likely to consider a program interesting and helpful if it includes take-home materials that prompt discussions with their parents. The PreK-2 Student Handouts fulfill that need.

(Student Handouts are included in the program's Presenter's Instruction Guide.)

Resources for Parents

Home reinforcement of the Think First & Stay Safe™ School Program helps to ensure that students will retain this invaluable information. As such, distribution of the Parent Guide is strongly encouraged. The Parent Guide is also a very visible way for schools to demonstrate compliance with federal educational entitlements calling for parental involvement.

A "Tips for Parents" handout is also included in the program's Presenter's Instruction Guide for copying and distribution.
